Lesson content
P3 (2026):
Living Things

If something moves, does it mean it is a living thing?

Through this engaging activity, P3 students will:
-
Recogise the differences between living and non-living things
-
Learn the 6 characteristics of living things
-
Apply their knowledge to accurately classify and differentiate between living and non-living things
Science skills in action: Observing, Inferring
P5 (2026):
Electrical System

Electrical system comes with abstract concepts, but this hands-on activity will help P5 students gain a foundational understanding of the various basic parts of circuits and their functions. They will:
-
Identify and understand the function of basic parts like batteries, wires, and bulb in a simple circuit
-
Learn that electricity needs a complete (closed) path to flow and light a bulb
-
Recognise that electricity is a form of energy
Science skills in action: Experimenting, Observing, Inferring
P4 (2026):
Matter

Some P4 students may find it challenging to grasp the properties of solids, liquids, and gases. Through an experiment using a syringe to test for compressibility, students will:
-
Gain hands-on experience to deepen their understanding of these properties
-
Be able to differentiate between the three states of matter based on their properties
-
Formulate a reasoned argument to identify an unknown substance
Science skills in action: Observing, Inferring, Experimenting

FAQs about our Open House
Q1: What exactly will my child do during the session?
Your child will engage in a hands-on, interactive activity related to the topic for their level (Living Things for P3, Matter for P4, Electrical System for P5). These are designed to be fun, engaging, and provide a taste of our teaching style.
Q2: Is this a full Science lesson or just a preview?
These 45-minute sessions are taster lessons designed to give prospective students an engaging preview of MQ's unique curriculum and activity-based learning approach. They are not comprehensive lessons intended to cover entire topics.
Q3: What should my child bring to the session?
Your child just needs to bring their enthusiasm and writing materials! All necessary materials for the activity and a worksheet will be provided by MQ.

Q4: What happens if I miss my session?
We will arrange for you to attend the session on an alternative date. However, if there are no more running sessions, you may choose to top up the fee for your child to experience a full trial lesson.
Q5: How does this Open House differ from MQ's regular Science programmes?
The Open House focuses on a single, engaging activity to showcase our activity-based methodology and pedagogy, offering a direct experience of how we spark curiosity. Our regular programmes delve deeper into the curriculum, including comprehensive topic coverage and Open-Ended question techniques.
Q6: Will there be any special discounts or promotions for the Open House?
You can enjoy $100 off upon signing up for Term 2. Please speak with our friendly customer service team to find out more.
Q7: Is this an online session?
No, all Open House sessions are physical only and will be conducted at our centre.
Q8: My child is in P3/4 but wants to attend the P5 activity. Is this possible?
Participation is strictly based on the child's academic level to ensure the content is appropriate and beneficial. Therefore, a P3/4 child cannot attend the P5 activity.
Q9: My child is in P5 but is interested in the Matter and Living Things workshop for P3/P4. Can they attend that instead?
Similarly, attendance is strictly based on the child's academic level. It would not be beneficial for the P5 child to attend the Matter and Living Things workshop, which is designed for P3/P4 students.
Q10: What are the qualifications of the teacher conducting these sessions?
Our sessions are led by an experienced educator, Mr Zhi Long, who is proficient in making Science engaging and accessible for primary school students.

Q11: What if all sessions are fully booked? Is there a waiting list?
We anticipate high demand and encourage early registration once it opens. Details regarding a waiting list, if sessions are fully booked, will be provided during the registration period.
Q12: Does MetaQuest have plans to open up Science classes at TWC Woodleigh?
After your child’s Open House session, we will be gathering interests for 2026 classes. If we are able to open a new class at TWC Woodleigh, we will definitely do so.
